After I took this photo I realized the spray can was facing the wrong way. lol. It’s Rustoleum chalkboard spray paint.
White or cream faux pearls to dress up the tray? I wasn’t sure, so I decided to wait until after the tray was painted to make up my mind.
Before I started I made sure the tray was nice and clean. Then I taped off the centre area with painter’s tape. As you can probably see in the photo I used many short pieces of the tape to get around the oval.
We had a cold spell for a few days so I sprayed the tray in the basement with 3 light coats of chalkboard paint, 2 coats one evening about 30 minutes apart and then a third coat the next night.
After about an hour I removed the tape and let the tray sit until the next night. I decided that I liked the cream faux pearls better than the white so I applied them around the centre area with my glue gun a few inches at a time.
And here’s my finished sign on the guest room door.
I have to say that I’m really loving chalkboard paint lately, and the tray took the paint extremely well. The spray version is so easy and fun to work with, and it’s great to be able to change the message any time I feel like it.
