This past weekend I decided to work on a small project for the guest room that was sooo easy to do.
Here’s a peek at my lamp shade makeover. Can you guess what I used?
Here’s what the lamp looked like before. I found it at a thrift store a few years ago for $2.
I taped off the light switch pulls because I wanted to keep the brass, and simply taped across the front of the sockets so no paint would get inside.
The gold parts are metal, and the green and white areas are plastic. I spray painted the entire thing with a lovely white for metal and plastic. It looked sooo much better already.
The dark green fabric and trim came off very easily.
So here’s what I used for the lamp shade cover… a pretty green knitted-in-the-round $1 thrifted scarf. I have a small collection of these fabulous stretchy scarves, which I don’t buy to wear around my neck, and I’ve used them in various colours in several past projects.
I fit it over the shade and cut it off around the top. It couldn’t have been easier!
The scarf hugs the shade very nicely and just sits softly over the top. I didn’t paint the inside of the shade because the pale yellow gives it a nice glow when either one or both lights are on.
So here’s the before again.
And the after. I really love the brass dangle light switch pulls. They have a lovely patina, and remind me of earrings.
It always amazes me at what a difference a little spray paint can make.
This was such an easy lamp and lamp shade makeover.
I didn’t adhere the scarf to the shade in any way because I like the fact that it can be easily changed whenever I want. The colours in this room are blue, green, and white… with hits of yellow here and there, so I can use scarves in any of those colours to replace this one. I already have a white one, and I’ll be on the lookout for yellow and blue. It’s fun to change things up every once in a while.
I have something in mind to bling up the lamp shade a bit, but I haven’t found it yet. Hopefully, I’ll have it by room reveal time. Wish me luck!
Thanks so much for reading! Have a great week!
