Spice Rack Makeover

By Tuula McPhee (This post may contain affiliate links.)

It was a fabulous spring weekend here. Well, actually it felt more like summer. Lucky us! 🙂

I’m talking warm breezes and beautiful blue skies, and we couldn’t get enough of being outside.

This warm weather also means that spray painting season has finally arrived. Yay!

My first candidate of the season is this vintage spice rack with the lovely ironwork doors.

I shared this in a thrifted finds post a long time ago.

I thrifted this one for $2.

Unlike this other vintage spice rack that I gave a makeover some time ago, which was made of 70s plastic resin, today’s is make of wood.

While it’s been waiting for its makeover I’ve been using it in my craft room to store some of my collection of small salt and peppers.

Rationally I know these should probably be hanging in the kitchen, but when I think of doing that it just doesn’t feel right… right now anyway. I spend a lot of time in my craft studio and I love looking at them.

So as long as they’re bringing me joy they’re staying right where they are. Plus some of them just might be used in projects some day.

I took it outside into the glorious warm sunshine and gave it two light coats of a lovely paint and primer white combo spray paint.

Here’s the before again.

And the after. I love that you can see some of the grain of the wood through the paint.

And here it is with the other spice rack I mentioned earlier.

There’s nothing that a couple of coats of white paint can’t fix, and that’s coming from a girl who does love colour. But I love colour with fresh doses of white here and there. It just makes everything look so fresh.

I’m sure our temps will go back down to seasonal, but we’re loving this warmth while it’s here.

I hope you had a lovely warm weekend too! 🙂

Thanks so much for reading, and until next time… keep on keepin’ on.

I just love that rack! Those little drawers! And it really looks like it belongs under the other one. As for weather? AZ, girl! We’ve been in the 80’s for weeks. Occasionally it will “dip down” into the 70’s, then pop up into the 90’s, and settle back into the 80’s. But, our “bad” weather is coming…..summer….temps over 100 every day for 3 months. Then I won’t be crowing about how nice it is here!! Dona

Thanks Dona! I love summer, but not sure I could take those high temps… maybe if it was a dry heat. It’s the humidity that we get here sometimes that gets to me, and it’s not too good for painting projects either.

Such a great find (and price!) I love the white, it really pops and looks great with the other spice rack as well. We had a wonderful weekend, too! 🙂 xo Kathleen

Thanks Kathleen! Glad to hear it was nice there too. 🙂 We were a little bit spoiled this past weekend as the temps are going down again. It was so nice to be able to spray paint again.

Hey Tuula, we had the same beautiful weekend! I love how the spice rack turned out. The first thing I saw was the wood grain peeking through, I think it was meant to be white all along. Thank you for sharing!!

A coat of white made the spice rack quite pretty. I have a few of these awaiting makeovers. I need to follow your lead and get busy! They make great paint racks.

Finally spray painting season has arrived here. I’d almost forgotten how much fun it is! Can’t wait to get more projects done. I keep all my little paints in a large metal spice rack that I found a couple of years ago. It works perfectly.
