What the Heck Is It? #14

Happy Thursday friends, and welcome to another edition of What the Heck Is It?

You may remember that the last mystery item was submitted by a TRV reader, Linda, who didn’t know what this fun item was.

What the Heck Is It? #13

Well, it was you guys to the rescue!

Turns out it’s a daisy maker.

Who would’ve thought? Certainly not me.

Thanks so much for helping Linda out. 🙂

This week’s mystery item comes from a blogging friend, Kathleen from Our Hopeful Home formerly Charm Bracelet Diva (at home).

What the Heck Is It #14

When I saw this in one of her Thrill of the Hunt posts I was intrigued by it. Whether it’s silver plate, aluminum, or galvanized pieces I have a thing for silver-coloured metals.

Kathleen didn’t know what it was, and neither did I, so I asked her if I could share it. I’m hoping you guys have some ideas for her.

What the Heck Is It #14

It measures 3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″.

What the Heck Is It #14

It still has the original tag on it, and it definitely looks vintage.

What the Heck Is It #14

She picked it up at Goodwill for 50 cents.

What the Heck Is It #14

I think it’s a pretty cool item.

What the heck is it? Any ideas?

Thanks so much for reading and until next time…

keep on keepin’ on!

I sometimes share my projects and posts at these fabulous parties listed here.

Looks like it would hold match sticks or used as a cigarette box

Wow, you got me on this one! The outside of it kinda looks burned. Could it have been to cook something in…..possibly over a campfire? That`s pretty far out there. I`m sure someone knows what it is!!! Fun stuff, though! Love these posts! Dona

I agree with ColleenB – I think it may have been a cigarette holder during WW II,,

Sure wish I knew after you all helped me out with the daisy maker, but I haven’t a clue…. The cigarette box seems a possibility, but it sure would be hard in a pocket!

I believe it might possibly be an item from WWII soldier’s kit for rations. Just a guess though! I remember my dad describing such items.

Sturm made (and makes) products for the military. My grandfather had a shaving kit and it looked a little like this.

It’s a portable stove. Still used by scouts and hikers today (in Australia at least). You open it up and put a solid fuel block in, light it, and put your cooking vessel on top. Youtube it – they’re great for hikers. Different brands available – Sturm, Minin, Esbit.

Exactly my first thought was a cooker of some sort.

Flip it upside down so the legs are pointing down. Put sterno underneath and you have a little cooking top.

Whatever it is, it is cool! I would have grabbed it for 50 cents too!
