What the Heck Is It! #20

What the Heck is it? is b-a-a-a-ck.

I heard through the blogvine that some of you have been missing WTH, so when I found today’s item I thought what the heck. Let’s do it!

Finding weird and wonderful stuff that I know nothing about is so much fun, and I love learning from you guys!

I’m so excited to show you what I found for the big comeback. I think it’s pretty cool, but I really want to know what you think.

So without further ado… here it is.

close up of small handmade wooden globe on a pedestal

It’s the whole world on a small globe… and it only cost me $2.

I couldn’t believe it when I saw it at my local thrift store, and bringing it home was a complete no brainer.

It’s all made of wood and it definitely looks hand made.

The wonky shape of the globe just adds to its handmade charm, and I love all the handwriting…

and the crudely (and I mean that in the best way possible) painted colours.

I see Canada up there!

The wood has lovely markings and the whole thing stands about 12″ tall.

The globe spins on one long thin piece of metal that goes from the top…

all the way to the middle of the bottom.ย I have no idea what those other holes are for.

There’s a hand written number 30 on the bottom of the pedestal and the bottom of the globe. What does that mean? How many were made? A design #?

So many questions that this inquiring mind wants to know the answers to. Like, where was it made? When was it made? Who made it?

Ok, now I’m getting into too many questions territory, but I have one last one for you. lol.

What the heck is it?

Thanks so much for reading, and until next time…

keep on keepin’ on!

XOX

Love it. So glad someone found one like it so you have a idea where it might have come from. I also bought a globe this week at a thrift store. Love trying to figure out some of the treasures you find.

Well, here I am, a day late and a dollar short (as my mother used to say)! But still, have to say, I love this piece! Would love to know what all the markings mean on the oceans….if they even have a meaning! And I, along with many others, am SO glad WTH is back!! Dona

Thanks Dona! I have no idea about the ocean markings, but it would be fun to know if they mean anything. It is quite an interesting piece, and I’ll be keeping it for quite awhile I think.

    Hey Tuula,

I just found this one on Etsy, sold in 2015, that could be made by the same person….. Check it out: https://www.etsy.com/listing/177929221/hand-carved-hand-painted-wooden-folk-art?show_sold_out_detail=1

Very cool! Could it be a sailors keepsake of his travels? The writing and spelling differs on each one of them. Glad to see WTH back in your posts ๐Ÿ˜‰
