I hope you’re having a great weekend so far. Me, I’ve been busy spray painting my day away, working on a few projects and being so into it that I completely lost track of the time. I love it when that happens! It’s good to lose track of time sometimes.
One of my makeover projects today was a bed tray that I bought a few months ago from my local thrift store.
I do a lot of reading and writing in bed and I’ve always wanted one of these bed trays with the magazine holders on the sides. I don’t actually read a lot of magazines, but I do read a lot of books.
It was off white and a little dirty, and some of its spindles were a little bent, but it was still worth every cent of the $5 it cost me. I gave it a good cleaning and a light sanding.
Then I gave it a light coat of a white spray primer (that’s what I had on hand) and two light coats of a fabulous pink.
It took some time and patience because of all the spindles in the side magazine holders. Here it is all watermeloned up. The colour name sure is accurate. I love it!
Here’s the fabric I used. It’s a P. Kaufmann “Sugar Baby” Paisley that I bought off of ebay some time ago.
I cut out a piece of thick cardboard to the size of the insert in the bed tray and cut out the fabric to wrap around it. (I keep a stash of cardboard pieces from behind pics, frames etc for times just like this when I need them.)
I ran double sided tape around the edges on the back of the cardboard and wrapped the fabric around to the back. Because I used the tape it’ll be easy to change the fabric whenever I like. I left some of the tape exposed on the back so it would adhere to the tray when I laid it in.
Here it is all prettied up!
I’m so happy with it! But then again I have a thing for colour.
I was thinking of adding an apple green just to the rim around the top and then distressing it a bit to let the pink show through. What do you think! Would that be too much? As if I’ve ever been accused of too much. Who me? Never. 🙂
Thanks so much for reading!
