Bejewelled Garbage Can Makeover

Two days ago I posted about some of my best recently thrifted finds for future projects. I just finished the first one this morning. Yay! So here it is… my makeover of the $4 stainless steel garbage can.

Here’s the before. I like the stainless look, but it had a lot of spotted discoloration that wouldn’t come off when I cleaned it. You can see it on the inside. It’s not so visible on the outside in the photo, but it was there as well. So the easiest solution was to spray paint it.

I see no reason why garbage cans shouldn’t be attractive additions to any bathroom. Why not decorate them to make them look better and to match the decor? I went into my thrift store craft stash and found some silvertone chains and blue/green glass bead thingies. Not sure what they’re called (brain cramp alert, lol), but they’re perfect for this.

I spray painted the can with a metallic silver.

I really love the soft frosted finish.

I used my glue gun to attach the thicker chain around the bottom, then a layer of the glass bead thingies, and finally the thinner chain on top.

Here’s the before again.

And here it is in place in the bathroom.

I love my new bejewelled garbage can. I almost hate to put garbage in it… but I will.
Thanks so much for visiting. Have a great day!
