Button Flowers Pillow Makeover

It’s my favourite time of the month again… time for the Thrifty Chicks project challenge.

On the second Wednesday of each month I join some very talented blogging friends for a project challenge, and with a different theme each time it’s really a lot of fun.

But first I’ll share my project with you, a quick and easy button flowers pillow makeover.

 

I found this sweet pink pillow a few years ago for $1, and even though I love it I’ve always thought it was a little boring.

I’m not sure what this fabric is called but it’s very soft and the dots are raised.

 

For my pillow makeover all I needed was some buttons from my thrifted buttons gloriousness stash, and some hot glue.

I love working with buttons, and earlier this spring I used hundreds of my buttons when I made this DIY button wreath.

 

All I did was add a dab of hot blue to the back of each button.

And then I glued them on the pillow to make my center burgundy button flower.

TIP: Put your button flowers together on your craft desk/table first, and when you’re ready do a dry fit on the pillow before you start gluing.

This way you make sure to get the spacing just the way you like it.

 

I then went into my green button stash and added a stem and leaves.

Just use what you have. Here I’m using some fabric covered buttons for the stem.

If the buttons aren’t all the same that’s totally ok. Actually I think it’s better than ok, I think it makes it much more interesting.

 

The second flower has purply buttons with a pink round button center.

 

And more fabric covered green buttons for its stem, and some little buttons for leaves.

 

These flowers come together really quick.

 

Here’s the third blue button flower with a pink button center.

I used the same fabric covered buttons as with the purply flower for its stem and some odds and sods for the leaves.

 

And here are the three finished button flowers dressing up the front of the pillow.

Easy peasy! This button flowers pillow makeover was done in about 15 minutes.

What did take some time was going through all my buttons and picking out which ones to use.

It took me about an hour, but I could have sat there putting different flower button combos together for days. lol. So much fun!

 

This was such an easy project, and the possibilities are pretty endless depending on the pillow and the buttons you use.

And if you want to display the plain side of the pillow sometimes you still can by just turning it over.
