Easy Lampshade Makeover
This quick 5 minute lampshade makeover is very easy to do. It’s been a few years since its original makeover and it was time for a change.
So  I dove into my thrifted scarf stash and found…
this little beauty.
Look at all those lovely colours… in one scarf.
When I saw it in the thrift store a few years ago it reminded me of stained glass.
I trimmed off all the ends because I know I’ll never be using it as an actual scarf.
I removed the previous scarf piece and here’s the bare lampshade.
I simply wrapped the scarf around the lampshade base.
The scarf is stretchy so I pulled it around how I wanted it, cut off what I didn’t need, and secured the ends together with safety pins, which weren’t visible once I pouffed a bit.
Here it is all done… easy peasy.
I think it looks so pretty all lit up.
This is what the lampshade looked like before the lamp makeover a couple of years ago, when it became…
this during my guest room makeover.
And now it looks like this with the light off.
And like this with the light on. In person you can really see the different colours much better.
I love that, like the last lampshade cover, this can be so easily changed when the mood strikes me… because I can almost guarantee that it’ll strike me in another couple of years. 🙂
I love repurposing scarves in my decor and crafting projects. I usually find them at thrift stores for $1 or less and they can be repurposed in so many ways. I always pick up unusual ones when I see them… like this one, which I’d never seen before and haven’t seen since.
I always knew I’d find the perfect way to repurpose it someday and I think I did. It’s so fun and colourful! 🙂

Thanks so much for reading, and until next time… keep on keepin’ on.

Wow, that is the quickest way I have found to transform a lampshade! It looks cute and whimsical! I actually have a Pinterest board for ways to transform a lampshade because I have been looking for years. Pinned!
Thanks so much for pinning AnnMarie! I love repurposing scarves. They’re so cheap here, and this was such a quick and easy change.
This is fabulous Tuula! You have inspired me to add scarves to my thrifting list!
Thanks Cecilia! They are one of my repurposing go-to’s. They really can be used in so many ways.
Great idea! I have a stash of scarves!
Thanks Mimi! Get out those scarves and see what you come up with. 🙂 It’s such fun to repurpose them!
This is so cool and versatile!!!!
Thanks so much Gail! And easy and inexpensive too.
Very clever! I love the finished product 🙂
Thank you so much! It really does cast a lovely light.
Very cute Tuula. Nice Boho feel. Happy New Week.
Kris
Thanks so much Kris! I do love boho style.
Oh, fantastic! I love this!!! I have a stretchy scarf, thrifted, of course, and now all I need is a simple light! Mine is in purples…..no surprise there! Thanks for this wonderful idea! Dona
lol. Of course yours is purple Dona! 🙂 I wish you good luck for finding a lamp. Lampshades are such an easy way to add some fun to our decor.
Tuula this is beautiful! What a great idea to use scarves like this — I really love the colors and the “pouffy” texture.
Thanks so much Lauren! It was quick, easy, and inexpensive. I’d love to find a scarf like this with tints of the same colour, from light to dark. I’m looking.
It really does look like stained glass!! Love the new shade.
Thanks Karen! I have to say it does look kinda cool, and the scarf did most of the work for me. I don’t think it could have been any easier.
Perfect scarf for a lampshade!
Thanks so much Tina! It was a lucky find.
I have a lampshade that needs a makeover. I love the shape but can’t find a decently priced replacement. You’ve given me a good idea!
That’s wonderful! I’m so glad my project has inspired you.
You sure are getting a lot of mileage out of that lampshade, but I like this version best! Love all the colors! Thanks, Tuula for sharing with us at Talk of the Town.
Thanks so much Betsy! It’s nice to do a quick and easy project sometimes.
Lovely colourful transformation it’s like a rainbow. Love that you can update your lampshade every so often.
Thanks Claire! Scarves are so fun and easy to work with.
Oh, this is way cute! i thought you had done some really fancy weaving with ribbons – but nope, you are much cleverer!
Thanks Michelle! That ribbon idea would be pretty cool, but this was so much easier. 🙂
That is a GREAT idea! I have a ton of scarves, and don’t know what to do with them! You say there are other ways to repurpose them…could you share some of those ways in a future post? They sure don’t sell very well (on Etsy), so if I could find ways to repurpose them, that would be great. I have seen curtains made, of course. All my lampshades in the house need a makeover, so I think I will do some experimenting. Thanks for the post.
Florence
That’s a great idea for a future post Florence. I’ve done many projects using thrifted scarves. I’ll have to think about that and get one together. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
