Easy No Sew Window Valance Made From Flannel Pants

I love trying to come up with projects using things that I already have, and this no sew window valance was very easy to make.

My upstairs bathroom window needed a valance to hide the vinyl blind when we have it up during the day.

That way I can pretend it’s not really there. lol.

We do need it at night for privacy, and during the summer to keep out the hot sun… so it has to stay.

So, here are the flannel pants that will become my window valance.

One of the legs is now shorter than the other because I cut a piece off to make one of these 3 no sew flannel pumpkins.

This pair has a pretty blue that will go nicely in the bathroom.

I cut across the pants, above the crotch area, which was very easy because I used the stripes to sort of guide me.

Then I cut right beside the seam at the back of the pants.

This way one seam is done and I only have to worry about hemming one.

Which I did with fabric hemming tape.

Just cut the tape to the length and width that you need. I cut mine in half  because I didn’t need it to be so wide.

Then you just iron the tape onto the fabric, using the lowest setting on your iron.

You don’t need a lot of heat and it only takes a few seconds to adhere the tape while moving the iron along.

Once the tape is adhered, remove the backing, fold over the fabric, and iron your hem.

You can fold the fabric and iron the hem before you add the fabric tape if you want. That may work better if you’re working with a longer hem.

It’s quite quick and easy really.

Using Fabric Glue for No Sew Window Valance

To finish off the bottom of the valance I used some fabric flue.

It’s not pretty, but it dries clear.

Then I pressed on some lace that I had in my stash. Any kind of lace or ribbon trim could be used.

This saved me from having to hem the valance.

The instructions say to put heavy objects over the glued areas for 24 hours, but since this is not going to take any real wear and tear I just did that for about an hour… and it worked fine,.

Then I put it aside for a day to let the glue completely cure.

The 24 hours thing is probably meant for clothing etc.

Here’s my pretty no sew window valance folded up and waiting to be hung.

Hanging My No Sew Window Valance

I used velcro dots to hang my valance.

They stuck to my window frame and flannel really well, but if they don’t stick to your fabric you can just sew a few stitches to hold them in place.

Technically this wouldn’t be a no sew project any longer, but it would still be a pretty quick and easy one.

So now I have Calving Klein flannel pants hanging in my bathroom window, complete with ribbon tie and label.

My no sew window valance was the perfect size for my upstairs bathroom window.

If my window was narrower I would gather the fabric using the ribbon tie to add some interest.

Here you can see that it hides the vinyl blind nicely during the day revealing the pretty view to our side yard.

This was a quick and easy project, and basically it cost me nothing because I had the pants leftover from another project. I would have loved it if my valance was just a little bit longer, so next time I’ll use a longer lace at the bottom. But all in all I’m pretty happy with it.

I think it’s a bit cheeky, but I love it when my home decor makes me chuckle.

If you enjoyed this project you might also enjoy the window valance that I made for my bedroom window. It’s a no sew project too.

Thanks so much for reading, and until next time…

keep on keepin’ on!
