Everything Including a Kitchen Sink

John and I went to two community yard/garage sales in two local small towns on the weekend and we found a few fabulous things.

Like some handmade flower edged crocheted doilies.

A fun string art picture of a train, an aged heart pan with a lovely patina, an amber coloured decorative dish (I’m always looking for these shaped dishes to use in garden plate flowers), and a vintage egg beater.

This is the fourth that I’ve thrifted and I’ve never seen one like this before. I’m not sure what the original purpose of the round part in the middle is for… (to prevent splattering maybe).

The cat canister was so pretty and I can always use more storage in my craft room. The Wm Rogers silver plate dish has a lovely grape cluster edging.

Another fun string art picture… this one looks like a Mississippi riverboat. This one and the train would make a cute set for a little boy’s room.

I’ve found a few enamel plates recently and this red edged one looks ancient, but that’s what I love about it.

The medium sized aluminum jello mold is un-named so OK to use in a project, and the little green glass bottle will make a great centre for a garden plate flower.

The aluminum ladle is marked Chemagro, and inside it is a sweet little stained glass angel with a dangling heart that says follow your dreams.

John bargained down this Monet water lily picture for me from $10 to $5. I absolutely love it, but the frame colour definitely needs to be changed. This will find its way into the master bedroom eventually.

And now to my favourite find… maybe of all time.

An absolutely filthy vintage cast iron farmhouse kitchen sink.  Isn’t she grand?!!!

And she didn’t cost me a grand. lol.  She cost me $10! Yay!!!

The price was so right we didn’t even haggle. The guy who we bought her from said she’d been in the barn for years.

She’s a whopping 30″ wide, and now she’s mine!! All mine!!! All kajillion pounds of her.

This is what I felt like when I first saw her. I was happy dancing on the inside, but playing it w-a-a-a-y cool on the outside… until we started driving away, and then I was dancing in my seat. Whoo… hoo!

The Thrifty Rebel

She cleaned up sooo nice.

She does show her age in a few places but that’s OK because so do I, and I’m not telling where those places are… for either of us. lol.

I’m tempted to redo my whole kitchen just for her.

But then she’d be a ten or twenty grand sink.

The Thrifty Rebel

She does wear these flower baskets well, but I have other ideas for her that don’t include emptying my bank account.

A couple of these finds will make their way into my etsy shop in one form or another, but she is most definitely a keeper.

Have any finds left you happy dancing lately?

  1. She's (sink) a beauty all right! And the flowers look perfect in it. I know that's temporary and can't wait to see what you come up with. The animated cat is really cute and I bet you feel like that quite often with your wonderful finds!

  2. I'm so happy! Dancing all around abut that beauty of a sink. I think I would remodel my kitchen for her. Though she would not fit as my sink is in front of a low window. She would be great as a potting table sink. Love the crochet pieces and the enamelware pan. Smiling at happy dancing cat – so cute.

  3. Oh my gosh—I LOVE that sink! We are looking for a vintage one for our kitchen remodel (stockpiling stuff now so that we won't have to run around like crazy people later.)

  4. Unbelievable – I'd HAVE to incorporate that sink somewhere ( I'm with Donna – the first thing I thought of was a potting bench sink ) It's just gorgeous !
And that Monet painting is beautiful too – great finds !

  6. The sink is by far my favorite of your finds! I love it and hope to find one similar to it before I remodel my kitchen in a year or two. It is perfect! Your other finds are great too! Have a wonderful week…Vicky

  7. Wow! Jackpot! The sink is wonderful- I don't know how you contained yourself until you got into the car. Booty dance!!!!
Love all your trinkets, too- but WOW that sink!

  8. I'd be setting that sink up outside with a hose and a bucket and using it! I do know what the round thing on the egg beater is. It fit onto a glass measuring container. When you used the beater, nothing sprayed out over the metal guard.

  9. You found some fun stuff girl, but that sink is by far the most awesome score!! Now I can't wait to see what your plan is as there is one in an old farmhouse on Sam's parents place and they said I could have it….if I could get it out! Inspire me as usual lady!!

  10. Oh my gosh! What awesome finds! I love it all. I've been looking for some cheap enamel at thrift stores but haven't found any yet… LOVE the sink of course. Are you going to use it in your house? It's really pretty.

  11. You found some pretty cool things but I must say that sink is da bomb! So many possibilities and I love the pink geraniums against the sparkling, shiny white! Way to go you guys. You scored BIG TIME!!

  12. WOW … that sink is awesome … would love to find one for a potting table. Fun and fantastic finds. I agree with Maureen about the beater. I have seen them with a green depression glass measuring bowl.
    Enjoy.

  13. I also found that egg beater, & I already had a small stoneware crock that it fits on perfectly for a display piece. I adore your sink, it's beautiful.

    1. Thanks so much Mary! It was a once in a lifetime find for me, that's for sure. How lucky that you had a crock to fit the egg beater. I just love vintage kitchen items.
