Fabulous Finds Friday
You Win Some, You Lose Some
When it comes to thrifting there are weeks when I find lots of things, and weeks like this week where I find one thing.
Then are are weeks when I find steals, like the $2 bracelet that I shared in last weeks’s Fabulous Finds Friday.
And weeks like this week where I thought I had found a steal.

When I saw this box I knew right away that there had to be some fabulous vintage-ness inside.
My first thought was vintage hankies.

But when I opened the box this is what I saw.
Cool, right?

That’s some interesting reading.
I’d never heard of the Around-The-World Shoppers Club, but it’s always fun to find things I’ve never seen before.

According to the info insert, these are six pieces of Florentine Silver.
The Giglio (lily) of Florence, the Emperor Julius Caesar, the stately Lion of Venice, the tiny shovel depicts Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, and their wolf mother. The fierce Griffon is from Perugia, scene of the tragic love of Romeo and juliet, then the handsome Apollo, god of the sun, poetry, music, philosophyy, and the art of healing.
But after I brought my $1 find home I discovered something.

The piece that is third from the right should be Julius Caesar, not a woman carrying buckets.
Ooops!

I’m sure she’s still vintage, but she doesn’t belong in this set
I’ve tried to do some research on her, but haven’t been able to find anything.

After doing some research I found that complete sets go for around $40 or more U.S.
But my set probably isn’t worth much.
Oh well, you win some…. you lose some.
But it’s still very cool, and maybe some day I’ll find the missing Julius Caesar.
You never know!
Thanks so much for reading, and until next time…
keep on keepin’ on!

Very cool! As a kid, my God-parents gave me a set very similar to these! Mine didn’t have the same things on top, though. I’ll bet that set is still worth more that $2 even with the imposter!! The paperwork itself is fascinating. I’d say it’s a great find!!!
Thanks Dona! Maybe it is, and someday I’ll find some info about that bucket-carrying lady.
I know you don’t like polished silver, but I’d polish those babies up! lol. Ok, now more importantly good thoughts and prayers for your beautiful Monkey. I dealt with failing kidneys with a large dog. What I do know is dry food is not good so try to switch to all wet food. Subcutaneous fluids helped my dog and eventually his kidneys were almost normal but sadly, something else went on and I lost him after one and a half yrs of dealing with the kidneys. Cats because of their size do not require a lot of fluids so it is easier and quicker to do. Easiest with two people. With dogs kidney disease can also cause high BP, not sure if the same with cats. I also gave my dog drops from this company Petwellbeing dot com. I believe they are for both cats and dogs and if not, they should have a cat formula. I have no doubt they helped him. You can read testimonies on their site. I hope your kitty will be ok!
Thanks so much Debra! We are waiting on the tests to see what our next move will be. Our vet is awesome and we know Monkey is in good hands. Thanks for the info!
Also wanted to mention I received so much help and info on this in a yahoo group. They knew more than my vet at that time did. I was told there was the same group for cats. The dog one was k9kidneys@yahoo so do a search for the one for cats. So much info. For example my dog would stop eating and I learned from the group (not my vet) that when their phosphorus levels become to high, it makes them lose their appetite. So there is a phosphorous binder that is compounded and can be given to help that which I did end up getting and using. Point being they helped inform me more than my vet. Many vets are clueless about kidney disease unless you see a specialist.
Thanks again Debra! I appreciate you taking the time to offer that info.
Hope your kitty Monkey has good test results. We had a tabby named Oreo that looked similar to your cat. He also had kidney problems. I saw some similar spoons to your lady with the buckets. I looked on ebay in the states. Nice find even if one does not match.
Thanks very much Olivia! I’ll check out ebay for that spoon.
