Finds of the Week #49
Happy Tuesday everyone! I hope your week is going well.
After not doing any thrifting for the past few weeks I was able to get back out there and find some cool things.
If you’ve been following me for a while now you know that I collect mini salt and peppers… like this vintage silver plate salt and pepper cruet set with a mustard jar that still has its spoon.
I paid $3 for it. The tray is marked EP Steel, Made in England.
Here are two of the cobalt blue glass inserts. Love the richness of the colour. I can’t open one of the shakers to get the other insert out. I can see that it’s in there so I’ll have to keep trying.
The sweet little mustard jar spoon is marked Sterling. These are often missing from these sets so I was lucky.
The last time I found some vintage cocktail forks I made them into cocktail fork flowers. Not sure what I’ll do with these, but I’ll try to think of something.
I found this vintage fly fishing reel in a Father’s Day section at a thrift store.
I paid $1, and I’ve seen them on ebay for $15 to $20. I used to sell quite a bit on ebay, but haven’t listed anything there in years so I think I might cast out a listing and see if I get any bites.
And I don’t often see buckets of silverware at a thrift store, but when I saw this for $3 I was as giddy as a school girl and grabbed it without even looking inside.
Check out all the silver plate goodness that I found when I got home…
6 teaspoons, 2 tablespoons, 1 soup soon, and 1 sugar spoon.
4 dinner knives, 2 butter knives, and 1 cake/pie server.
15 dinner forks, and 2, what I think are, pickle forks.
All that for $3. What a great deal!
You can see that they’re all very tarnished, and that always brings the price down around here. Works for me! 🙂
And I have no idea why, but I felt compelled to pick up this $1 handmade wooden airplane.
At the time I thought it would make a cool wind chime, but I think almost everything would make a cool wind chime so that’s not much of a stretch for me.
I’m learning that just because I think it doesn’t make it so. Even though I most often think it does. lol.
It definitely will be getting a paint job though, and then we’ll see where it goes from there.
Have you been compelled to pick up anything unusual lately?
Thanks so much to you for reading, and until next time… keep on keepin’ on.
Wow! Once again your finds blow me away!! And let me say, my friend (and her husband) absolutely loved the wind chime. After thanking me over and over, she text me a few days later to tell me, again, how much she loves it! So, thank YOU, for your personal creativity!! Dona
I’m so thrilled that your friend loves the wind chime Dona! It does my heart good to hear that, so thanks so much for letting me know. 🙂
Great finds Tuula. Love the little airplane too. I know your creative mind will find something good to make that into. Happy New Week.
Kris
Thanks so much Kris!
What great finds! Love that you found so much surprises in that bucket!
Thanks Lauren! I really was surprised at how much was in the bucket. Great deal for $3.
Wonderful silver finds. I would have bought all the same things you did. Silver is getting harder to find here and if you do find it the price is way too high. That bucket was truly a treasure trove.
I couldn’t believe it when I saw it! I love the old beaten up tarnished silver. It seems no one wants it around here… except me. 🙂
What an adorable salt and pepper shaker set! I would love that! And that silverware – awesome! xoKathleen
Thanks Kathleen! Not sure why but I have a thing for mini salt & peppers… especially silver ones.
Wow, what a deal on the bucket of silverplate flatware. Most of what I see in our thrift stores is stainless, I think someone must be beating me to the bucket.
There’s a lot of stainless here too Betsy, but every once in a while I hit the silverware jackpot. I wish it would happen more often. 🙂
I love those things that you just have to have and don’t know why. They usually turn out to be great finds. You found lots of great stuff to recreate with….which I know you will. Can’t wait to see what you do!
Thanks AnnMarie! I’m sure there must be a reason why I had to have that airplane, but for now I have no idea. Sometimes we just have to buy with our hearts, especially when it’s only $1.
What a great buy on the flatware! Great finds, Tuula!
Thanks Cecilia! I can never have too much silverware.
Some pretty cool finds. That plane could make a great baby mobile!!! My neighbor opened up a vintage store on the highway about a mile away. I am pretty excited to take my sisters there. You would love it!!
I’m always interested to check out a new vintage shop. Hope you find some great stuff. A mobile is a great idea for the plane. It’s kind of a neat thing.
You found more great treasures. Very nice! I like the salt/pepper set. That’s very cool, and at an awesome price! I love the idea of making a wind chime from the wood airplane, so hopefully it works out for you.
Thanks Sheila! I’m working on the airplane wind chime idea. Hopefully it works out the way I see it in my brain. We’ll see. 🙂
