Homemade White Chalk Paint Dresser Makeover
So I’m heading into the home stretch of my French Caribbean guest room makeover. Thank goodness!!
Here’s a sneak peek at my latest makeover… my chalk paint dresser.
For this makeover I used the same homemade chalk paint recipe that I used for my Weather Beaten Triple Dresser Makeover. This time I mixed it with some white Ooops paint that I already had from the Restore. I had already painted the top by the time I remembered that I should take a before pic. Ooops!
We picked this dresser up for $50 years ago. It’s held together with antique nails, and the drawers have dovetailed joinery.
The hardware seems original. The white knobs are glass.
It’s way too big a job to carry furniture downstairs and out of the house to paint, so I tend to paint pieces right where they are.
Three coats of the chalk paint and this baby is almost done. I still have to add a top coat of wax or poly to finish it off. Probably polyurethane because I have some Benjamin Moore Stays Clear on hand.
Here’s the before again. I never really liked the orangy coloured wood.
And here’s my chalk paint dresser … from an orange fright to a white delight.
I really love the fresh white of this dresser against the blue walls. You’ll see how it looks in the guest room when I post my reveal at the end of the month. I can’t wait!!
I finally found the perfect thing to repurpose into a headboard, so I’ll be working on that this weekend. Then just a few final minor touches, and the room will be ready. Yay!!!
Thanks so much for reading! Have a great weekend!
Oh Tuula, that looks lovely! You are really getting after that room! Can't wait to see the reveal and your headboard! You go girl!!
The bright white really pops against that wall color — love it!
You are such a tease :). I can't wait to see the guest room reveal. If it's anything like the transformation of this dresser, I am sure we will be very impressed.
LOVE! What's up with that orange-colored wood, and why is there so much of it??? Looking forward to the reveal!

Painting that dresser white really makes a difference. It takes on a whole new look and will go with just about any decor! I so want to try chalk painting. Redoing your guest room has been so inspirational!
The vintage dresser has a whole new life! It looks fabulous and perfect against the wall colour. Hurry up with the room reveal!
ps – If you are in Stratford during any of the Art In The Park days this summer, look for my grandson Michael Shepherd. He's passed the jury process and is one of the resident artists!
Can't wait to see the guest room reveal. The chest turned out great.
Looks way better 🙂 I have a few things that I need to paint, but moving them would be a pain, how did you do that, just throw down some sheets? Is your top coat a brush application or spray?
Why is it that white just makes everything come alive gain, it looks great I still need to try chalk paint but I think it will be the next room I do 🙂
I would love for you to share and link up at my TGIF Link Party. The party is open every Thursday night and closes Wednesday's at midnight.

Oh I love it, what a great redo, it looks so up to date. Thanks tons for joining Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty
I like how the white paint accents the key holes on the drawers. Such a pretty touch.
How do you like the Benjamin Moore Stays Clear poly? I've used Minwax which yellows everything. 🙁 I, too, recently painted a dresser white and was going to use wax (for the first time) to seal it. I'm curious, though, if the poly you use would keep the white white instead of turning it off white or yellow. Thanks!
Tuula this is a wonderful re-do and I love the style of the dresser. Thanks for sharing this on Fluster's Creative Muster Party!
