Laundry Hamper Makeover
I found this hamper at the thrift store for $2 about 6 months ago. I was using it to store things in my craft room.
It was in perfect condition… just a little worn and dusty.
All it needed was a good cleaning and a coat of a lovely white spray paint and primer combo… so out to my cardboard painting booth in the garage it went. Here it is about to be painted.
Before covering the lid with fabric I removed the contact paper covering to find this green vinyl underneath. It was still in good shape, but totally not what I was going for.
I removed the two hinges holding the lid in place and used this fabulous floral fabric from my stash.
I cut it to size and simply folded the sides in, stapling as I went. Once the hamper was dry I reattached the lid to the hamper.
Here’s the before again.
And the after.
It really cleaned up nice, and it’s so much brighter.
I’m going to let it sit with the lid open for a few days to air out the spray paint smell. I had a photo of the inside, but when I went to get the pics to add to this post it had somehow disappeared. Nothing much to see anyway… it just looks more white than it did before.
Now it can take it’s rightful place in the upstairs bathroom/laundry room.
Have a great day, and thanks so much for reading!
Love your hamper redo and the idea of using it to store things in your craft room. What a great idea! I will be keeping my eyes peeled for one for my craft room to store large items! Have a blessed week….Vicky

Well what a great idea! My sad laundry hamper is more than 20 years old and now it's jealous! I think I'll give it a makeover soon..never once thought about it! Thanks Tuula!
Great new look, Tuula! I'm like Danni who never thought to makeover hampers. I've collected a few over the years and they all could do with a new look! Thanks for the inspiration!
I always pick these wicker hampers up when out shopping. They are easy to repaint and recover the tops and they are workhorses around the house. Love the fabric you found for it. We need to sit Danni down and talk to her about hamper abuse.
I sware TUULA you are a ball of talent my sweet beautiful friend. LOVE it and thanks for sharing
Great makeover Tuula! You can definitely see the difference of the whites before and after! Looks so new!!
Great fabric choice!
Beautiful fabric Tuula such a pretty makeover
I love the new look!!! I'd be afraid to put Phil's nasty clothes in there…

Great change and the fabric is so cheery looking. Love this idea. Thanks so much for linking to Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty
I love the new fabric choice. Your clothes hamper does look pretty much brand new now. That is such a simple transformation too.
I recently noticed the top edge of my hamper has frayed. Now I know what I'm going to do. Recover it! Thanks for the idea.
You find the best stuff ! I'd love to find a hamper the big and sturdy. Nice up cycle, you know I LOVE spray paint!
Wow! I can’t believe how nice the hamper turned out! I have one that was from the 70’s and was looking dull and old, but still in great shape structure wise. Anyway, along comes a new kitty we literally rescued, and now my hamper top looks like spaghetti! I am not craft suavy at all! So your project has given me hope and inspiration! Thank you so much! I just signed up for your emails!
Grateful,
Kathy
Thanks so much Kathy! How wonderful that you took in that kitty. At least she got some good use from your hamper. lol. Thanks so much for signing up. 🙂
