October Overhauling! My Inspiration Room Makeover Begins!
I was already planning on redoing my craft room but when I saw that Amie at Pinkapotamus and Amy at While Wearing Heels are hosting an October Overhauling challenge to reorganize our messy craft rooms within the month of October. C’mon, admit it, most of us have them. If not a room, then at least a closet. Check it out, there’s still time to join the challenge. The button is on my blog sidebar and at the bottom of this post.
I spend a lot of time in my inspiration room. I call it that because that’s where the creative magic happens, and I need my surroundings to inspire me. I don’t only plan to reorganize, but to redecorate as well… with no fear… with the little girl inside me as my main imagination consultant. Does that sound scary? Trust me, it’s not. She has very good taste (I hope)… and it’s going to be so much fun!!
My hubby and I live in a 120-year-old house and storage is always an issue. This inspiration room needs to do triple duty as my craft room/office/storage room. It’s a whopping 8′ 8″ x 11′ and has a small closet in the corner behind the door, which is always overcrowded. It has a 9 1/2′ ceiling, so I need to take advantage of the vertical space, and it’s on the north west corner at the front of the house with 2 large windows that add some much appreciated natural light.
Here are some before pics. I’m warning you… it isn’t pretty people!
Yikes! Pretty bad I know. And I have a ton of fabrics stored in a dresser in the bedroom. I need to do some major purging, redecorating, and reorganizing.
Because I’m constantly thrifting, I’m also constantly purging (believe it or not). I have to. I only have so much space and I don’t like clutter. I need to get things organized and most of it behind closed doors. Thank goodness for thrift stores. Great to buy from, but also a great place to take the things that are still in good shape that I no longer need.
The blue paint on the walls is a mixture of my upstairs bathroom ceiling and wall paints, and I’ve been living with this grey/blue for about 5 years now and although it’s OK I need to brighten up this space. I need to happify it, big time!!
So I have to move a lot of stuff out of this room so I can start painting. Yay!! I can hardly wait. I just love to paint. It’s like meditation to me and I really enjoy it. It’s amazing what a new colour scheme can do for a room.
But, I also have a lot of projects to do for this room, and many will be showing up here in the coming weeks. A select few will be saved for the final reveal. So… I have my work cut out for me, but I’m so excited to be taking part in this challenge. This has been a long time coming!!
UPDATE: To see my craft room after please see the post entitled Craft Room Makeover Reveal.
Look forward to seeing the transformation 🙂

Tuula (Gosh, i love that name!) – Your space looks well-organized compared to my overwhelming supply of everything imaginable. I am glad to be doing this overhaul with others. It will give me the boost to make it happen. I am your newest Google follower.

That really isn't that bad at all. I love that you joined October Overhauling. I am sure you'll do a great job reorganizing and decluttering. I am jealous you have a craft space with a bright window…mine is in my basement :). I can't wait to follow you on your journey!
Thanks Amy! I hope I can get everything done in time. This is the kick in the pants that i needed. I'm so looking forward to seeing all the afters.
