Quick and Easy Winter Heart Wreath

Quick and Easy Heart Wreath

Sometimes we just want to make something quick and easy like this heart wreath, which also has a splash of winter fun.

I don’t do any decorating for Valentine’s Day at all, but I do love to make a new wreath for the front door each year

This year I’m all about simplifying my projects, which also means using what I already have in my stashes rather than buying more stuff.

supplies needed for winter heart wreath

I rarely buy craft items at craft stores because I snap them up for a fraction of the cost whenever I see them at thrift stores. I often find supplies still in their original packaging.

All the items for this heart wreath were thrifted.

You’ll find a complete list of what I used for this project near the end of this post.

This heart wreath is so quick to put together.

My funky necklace heart wreath, and my pink and sparkly heart wreath are very easy projects too.

For this heart wreath all you have to do is wrap the ribbon around the wreath form, adding a dab of hot glue here and there… wherever you think it needs it.

red ric rac trim for winter heart wreath

I found this thrifted red ric rac trim in my stash.

When I see trims like this at a thrift store there’s usually a bunch in a bag for a dollar or two, so I always buy them.

You never know when they might come in handy, and they don’t take up a lot of room to store.

I love burlap, but for me it’s usually a backdrop…  not the main attraction.  Adding the red trim gives the heart wreath some extra zing.

While wrapping the trim around the wreath, just like with the burlap ribbon, add a dab of hot glue here and there.

Feather Boa Backdrop for Heart Wreath

wrapped white feather boas around styrofoam round wreath form

I have a thing for feather boas. They’re so fun, and the white ones remind me of the lovely fluffy snow of winter… which we have tons of right now.

After wrapping the two white feather boas around the styrofoam wreath I tied the ends in place around the wreath form with invisible thread.

If you don’t like feather boas a white wintry woolly scarf would look fabulous too.

Here’s my almost finished burlap ribbon and red ric rac heart wreath.

To attach it to the feather boa wreath I used invisible thread again, in 3 places.

To finish it off it just needed a little red bow from my Christmas decorations, and a bit of the ric rac behind the bow to help define that heart shape.

Valentine's Day Winter Heart Wreath

Here’s my finished winter heart wreath in place on my front door.  To hang it on the nail I just used a piece of white string tied around the boa wreath form.

I put the heart on an angle just for the fun of it. Why not?

I like things that are a bit unexpected.

Want the heart straight? That’s ok too.

By itself the heart wreath wouldn’t have made much of an impact because it was too small for the door.

The feather boas make for a lovely wintry backdrop.

So before you go buying new stuff for a project check out your stashes first to see what you already have that you can use.

Thanks so much for reading, and until next time…

keep on keepin’ on!

  1. Perfect! You know, I’m making a list of things I want to do for myself….like several new wreaths! And winter is one of them! I’m really going to cut back on the sewing I do for others this year so I can start doing the things I want to do. Not getting any younger, you know! This is a great idea, combining winter and Valentine’s! Thanks for the idea!! Dona

This is so pretty! All of your crafts are so unique. I would never have thought to add a feathered boa but it softens everything up and just look so nice!
