Rekindling a Love Affair…

with the colour pink! What did you thnk?

I’m a happily married woman… and it’s Think Pink Monday.

I’ve always loved pink. I’ve worn it, eaten it, planted it, and even decorated my lips and fingernails with it. Even my blog design is getting its pink on, and becoming more me.

I’ve even been dreaming in pink lately. I just can’t seem to get enough of it .But I’ve never decorated my adult home with pink, and I didn’t even realize this until I started this blog.

So…what’s up with that?

I’ve always been a huge fan of colour, and in the past I’ve never been afraid to use colours that I love in my home. Except for pink!

What saved me from living my life in fear of decorating with pink?

I’m so glad you asked.

It happened two summers ago… shortly after I started my blog. I was strolling down the aisle in Wal Mart on my way to the spray paint section… and there it was… in the distance… calling the little girl inside me like a beacon of pink light.

It was so beautiful… s-o-o-o delicious… that it made my decorating mouth water. It was Krylon’s Watermelon Pink spray paint.

I fell head over heels in love at first sight, and I actually giggled. And my decorating life was changed forever! F-o-r-e-v-e-r!

So then my first inclination was to paint everything with it!

I know this is totally irrational. What am I… 53 going on 5? OK… maybe, but that’s besides the point.

Everything can’t be pink. If everything was pink, then the pink wouldn’t be special. Right? Restraint be thy middle name.  Mine?!! Not likely.

But even though I love that colour, there are so many other fabulous pinks to love.

Decoupaged Poetry Night Table

Like the OOOPS pink on the underside of my master bedroom night table.

And another OOOPS paint on the dresser and mirror combo.

And the Moulin Rouge colour that I used on my craft room ceiling. It’s so warm and cosy on chilly winter days, and fun and happy every single day.  After about 2 years I’m still totally in love with it. It’s  not going anywhere anytime soon.

Craft Room Ceiling

I vow from this day forward to have something pink in every room in this house. To me pink is the happiest colour, and that’s just what I want every room to be… happy.

I want some things around me that don’t just make me smile… but make me giggle like a school girl. Why not?

Just because I’m a grown woman doesn’t mean I have to love pink from the distance of adulthood. I promised myself that there would be no more admiring pink from afar!

It’s OK for me to think pink, to paint a dresser pink, to even paint a wall pink. Or a ceiling!

I’m so loving getting my pink on that I decided to undertake a pink internet expedition to discover some fabulous room examples of girlified pinkification.

Here’s just a little of what I found.

This dining area is fabulous. So pretty!
Love the white plate collection against the pink wall.

To me this room is elegantly funky, and I totally love that!
Brown and pink is a wonderful combo.

I love everything about the above vignette.

The bench, the pillows, the lamps…oh my! I could go on.

The rustic look of this pinkified vanity/dresser really works for me.
It’s such a lovely jolt against the pale blue wall.
Love the coral pink with the yellow and pale aqua. The white shelving and accents are so fresh, helping the three colours to beautifully harmonize .
And last but not least, this beautiful room with that wall. It’s pinktastic!!
This room would make me eternally happy. How could I not be?

I’m feeling incredibly liberated. I hope you are too!

Now if you really don’t like colour that’s one thing. But if you don’t use colour, any colour, because you’re afraid of it… don’t be. Decorating should be fun.

Don’t be afraid to be fearless.

It doesn’t have to be pink, and it doesn’t have to be a whole room… or even a whole wall. It could be a picture frame, a table, a chair, a pillow… anything really.

Try something new… go out of your comfort zone… follow the instinct of that little girl inside you. That’s what I’m doing.

What could go wrong? If it doesn’t turn out, this is only decorating after all. But when it does (thinking positive here) you might just fall head over heels in love.

Thanks so much for reading.

Sprinkle some colour somewhere today, any colour, and smile.

  1. Proud to be a pink lady! I love the mirror and those pearls on it. Love that you've been on an internet expedition as well. (Do they stamp your passport for that?) You are so right about not being afraid to use color. I sure was for years, but in my new house I have orange and blue for the first time ever.

  2. Think Pink!! I love all of your pink projectsTuula. You found some great inspiration pics. I have this strange feeling that we are going to be seeing a lot more pink from you soon. ???

  3. Great collection. There was a time when I was going to paint my studio room ceiling pink and everyone I mentioned it to looked at me like I was nuts. I may have to revisit this idea now. Thanks so much for linking up at the Make it Monday Party! Hope to see you again next week.

  4. Pink is one of my favorite colors and you'll see A LOT of it in my closet. I have a few accessories here and there…it could get addicting. Love the table with the pink underneath. Thanks so much for sharing.

  5. I am proud to be a Pink Lady even though I sell a lot of pink, I only have pops of it in my house. However I have always loved the pink ceiling in your craft room. I think using pink at an advanced age is like being a rebel!

  6. I agree with everything you said about loving pink except for me it's purple. And I love pink too especially since it compliments purple. But I get so tired of hearing folks say pink and purple are little girl colors. That might be true but there is a level of sophistication in using pinks and purples that just can't be duplicated that I'm loving. Your wonderful internet expedition clearly shows this!

  7. You are so right, I tried going with red to get away from such a feminine colour and I hated it, now I have pink back and it just makes me happy 🙂

  8. Love all your pink decor! There's that mirror like mine again too! Mine is currently painted gold but it's on it's third or fourth paint job. Who knows…maybe someday it will be pink. Looking forward to sharing soon…:) Have a fabulous Thursday….Vicky

  9. Pink for Tuula! I am very partial to pink- pink and green combo, especially. My grandmother loved pink and green and her bedroom was the happiest place. I say enjoy all the colors you love. Why wouldn't you?
