The Key
Sometimes I think we forget that we have the ability to change our lives at any time.
A new day is a new opportunity to make things happen, rather than just letting things happen to us.
I wrote this poem to remind myself that no matter what’s going on in life, that each and every day can be a new beginning… if I choose to let it be.
The Key
Â
The day is done.
Another day has ticked by you
like twenty-four hours
of glass.
of glass.
Each moment as fragileÂ
as a single grain of sand.
It trickles away,Â
grain after single grain,
becoming another possibility
that slipped,
unnoticed,
becoming another possibility
that slipped,
unnoticed,
through all the invisible cracks
in this noisy life.
in this noisy life.
Another chance
to pilot the tide of time
is lost.
Â
Listen. Listen.
Life also speaks in whispers.
Life also sings in silence.
It’s just a heartbeat…
just a breath…
just a single grain of sand.
Life also sings in silence.
It’s just a heartbeat…
just a breath…
just a single grain of sand.
It burrows deep into  sleep,Â
digging
through all  your hidden layers
through all  your hidden layers
until it has dug down,
far enough down,
to awaken
a sleeping dream.
far enough down,
to awaken
a sleeping dream.
You can raise it to the surface,
bring it out into the light,
or you can leave itÂ
forever buried
behind the locked door
of your true self.
bring it out into the light,
or you can leave itÂ
forever buried
behind the locked door
of your true self.
The key to your destiny
was not lostÂ
in the sands of time.
It’s been in your heart’s pocket,
waiting.
was not lostÂ
in the sands of time.
It’s been in your heart’s pocket,
waiting.
So sleep now. Sleep.
Let your soul dream.
The past is your bed.Â
The present is your blanket.
The future will be knocking
on your locked door
on your locked door
in the morning.
How will you choose to answer?

Whatever your sleeping dream may be,
it’s never too late to use your key.
it’s never too late to use your key.
Thanks so much for reading, and until next time…
keep on keepin’ on!

Hi Tuula, wow what a beautiful poem. Hope you have a nice Monday.
Tuula, you just blow me away with your poetry! Maybe you should enter the monthly poetry contest at goodreads.com. Yours are better than anything I've read over there!
I agree with Danni! Your poem is beautiful Tuula! You amaze me with your talent. I'm so glad you're posting what you write. A true gift.
My dear Tuula, I think you are actually Wonder Woman! You can write, you can create, you can design…. you are amazing 🙂
Your words are simply beautiful! Thank you for blessing us with your many talents. Have a lovely week. Hugs!
Just beautiful Tuula. You have an amazing gift!
Another lovely poem, Tuula! I hope you're putting a book together to be published! I wish I had used my key long ago!
Beautiful!
Gail is so right. You need to put your poems together with your photos. The topic is one I have a struggle with – time. A great way to start my Monday.
Just wonderful!
I'm so glad you shared another poem Tuula! I thoroughly enjoy reading them. Hope you're Monday was rosy…:) Have a lovely week!
That was so beautiful Tuula, and you SERIOUSLY need to do something with your creations. The world needs to see them.
WIll come back to check things out! I love the pink key/key hole picture…hope you did something cool with it…can't wait to see. I love that style of design, just not a talent I have been able to procure! But sure enjoy looking at what others do!

Wonderful!
What a wonderful poem. Thanks for sharing it with us Tuula. Much food for thought.
I'm so glad you shared this beautiful post with Roses of Inspiration. Thank you so much, Tuula! Hugs!
Applause, applause! That was really beautiful, Tuula.
Wow. That was fabulous. You should publish. Or at least make us a printable to frame!! And that picture of you must be REALLY old if you are actually the age you said you are! Seriously….you look 35. Dona
Thanks Dona! You're too sweet. That pic was taken 5 years ago on an Alaskan cruise. When I started my blog I had a terrible time picking a photo because I don't like being in them much. I really should get an updated one. Hopefully the 5 years haven't aged me too much. Thanks again for the ego boost. You're the best!
Wow! And a pink photo to go with it ! Nice job.
Gosh, Tuula, you really hit the nail on the head with this one, or should I say fit the key right into the lock;) The meaning is so true. It's amazing how much time we waist as a species. I will be thinking about your words this week as I try not to waist so much time. Sharing this, my rockin' poet friend!
