The Last Time I Saw Paris Part 1: The Eiffel Tower

The last time I saw Paris was the first time… and will definitely not be the last time. John and I went for my 50th birthday in May of 2011, before I was blogging. ‘La Ville-Lumiere’ or ‘The City of Light’ is truly a magical place.

I’ve mentioned our trip in a few posts and there’s been some interest so for the next few Wednesdays I’ll be posting slideshows showing some different parts of our trip. The final post will include a few tips… just some things we learned that really helped to make our trip even more fabulous.

I’m starting with the the Eiffel Tower.

The Eiffel Tower was built by Gustave Eiffel for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, and took over 2 years to build. It’s an architectural wonder, and is quite amazing to see in person. Since heights freak us both out a little we only went as high as the second level, but we weren’t disappointed, and we were told that this is where you can get the best pics. There are amazing views of the city on all sides.

So… here we go.

(If you put your cursor on the slideshow some icons will appear. To make the slideshow bigger click on the box in the bottom right hand corner, and you can turn some lovely instrumental music on by clicking on the sound button that is to the left of the music info. The default is mute. The music I chose is by David Lohstana of France.)

Hope you enjoy it!

This is the first time I’ve posted a slideshow so hopefully t works OK. To do this slideshow I used a free site called www.kizoa.com. It’s really easy to use and you can add music from their options like I did or upload your own.

Next Wednesday: Versailles.

Thanks so much for reading and watching.

  1. Oh I'm so jealous- what a delightful trip! The last time I was there was in college! (more than a few years ago-lol) and we never made it to the top of the tower – Your photos are wonderful – can't wait to see more!

We used to stay for years near the Ecole Militaire – and I even fell asleep on a bench a couple of times reading a book LOL

  5. Beautiful picture, I can't see the slides how on my iPad I will check it out when I'm on the computer next. What a birthday xo

  6. I've only been once many, many years ago but it was unforgettable. Years later I returned to France but that time was to Monte Carlo which was equally charming. There is something about not only Paris, but all of Europe that captures the imagination and doesn't let go. Maybe it's the sense of history, but most likely it's the sheer beauty of it all, plain and simple.
