Vintage Floral Frame Chalkboard Makeover

I’ve been thinking a lot about Paris lately so John and I watched the movie Midnight In Paris on the weekend. I’m not sure how many times we’ve watched this movie (our favourite by the way), but hey… who’s counting? Not us apparently.

I’m not usually someone who watches movies more than once… except for some oldie favourites, but when it comes to Paris I make an exception. Audrey Hepburn is quoted to have said… “Paris is always a good idea”. And she was sooo right!

Someday I’ll get back there, but until then I’ll happily wander the streets of the 1920’s with the characters of Midnight in Paris.

Floral Frame Makeover into Chalkboard

I found this vintage metal framed mirror at a garage sale and fell head over heels in love with it. I couldn’t believe someone was getting right of it. I snapped it up before I realized that it had a concave mirror aka funhouse-like mirror.

I removed the mirror (I’ll find another use for it later) and the piece of masonite board behind it, gave the frame a good cleaning and…

spray painted the frame with a lovely white paint and primer combo. Then I re-used the masonite backer board and sprayed it with chalkboard paint. Both the frame and the chalkboard took a few light coats, with a few minutes of dry time in between.

Don’t I have beautiful chalkmanship? OK, I have to fess up… I got a little help from Picasa… my own attempt looked quite terrible and I thought Audrey deserved better.

I really love the finished look. Now I just have to decide if I’m going to keep it or sell it.

Thanks so much for reading!

  11. I would love to know your secret in getting the professional look of your text!! Thank you!! Penny

    1. Hi Penny. I had a little help from my friend called Picasa. lol. The chalkboard is actually blank, and the text is done on the photo in Picasa because my chalkmanship is terrible. I couldn't do anything less to an Audrey quote. Thanks so much for stopping by.
