Vintage Tree Light Reflectors Wall Art Fabulous Finds Friday
Vintage Tree Light Reflectors Wall Art
Are you attracted to things this time of year that remind you of your Christmas childhood?
It really seems the older I get the more sentimental I’m becoming.
Sentimental for a simpler time, when the only worry I had was whether or not my letter would make it all the way to Santa at the North Pole.
Mind you that was a big worry for a little girl, but she believed in Christmas magic.
And that little girl inside me still believes, and she brings things home from the thrift stores that help me keep believing too.
(I blame all my thrifting on her. lol)
Like these colorful vintage tree light reflectors.
I found this box at a local thrift store just this past weekend.
Light reflectors are so much fun to repurpose, like in my in my Vintage Tree Light Reflector Ornaments project earlier this week.
I was pulled in by that pinky/purply fabulousness, but when I opened up the box there weren’t any lights inside.
But, surprise surprise… there were not just 20, but 76, vintage tree light reflectors in this one box.
And for just $1.50.
Score!
For this vintage tree light reflectors wall art project I also needed some metal light reflectors. I’m using ten that match and are flower-shaped.
Preparing the Frame for My Tree Light Reflectors Wall Art
I made this barnboard and chicken wire frame a few years ago and have used it for several projects over the years.
Like my Framed Vintage Ornaments, where I showed how I put it together, and my Folding Ruler Christmas Tree.
There are so many different thing you could use for this project, a piece of wood, an old cupboard door, fabric, a bulletin board… whatever you have or can find.
For this project I want an additional texture on the back of my wall art.
So I went to my thrifted scarf collection and found this lovely winter white, and I cut it down to the length I needed.
It stretched quite easily to go across the back of the barnboard frame.
I attached it using my hot glue gun, going from side to side until I made my way all the way down.
Here’s what it looks like from the front.
Just to show you the lovely pattern on the scarf I placed my pink cutting mat underneath.

Then it was time to glue on my metal light reflectors to create my Christmas wall art.
I did a dry fit first to make sure I was happy with the placement and then started gluing them on.
When placing the metal light reflectors on make sure you get good contact with some of the chicken wire.
After all my metal tree light reflectors were in place I glued on the pink plastic ones.
Make sure to put the glue around the outside of the plastic circle part, not on the bottom.
This is so you get glue contact with the metal light reflectors when you place them in the opening.
I found this vintage aluminum bell-shaped cookie cutter and thought it made a cute trunk for the tree.
And here’s my tree all glued on and looking pretty, but it needed a little more.
Because sometimes more is more, right? lol.
Gluing Centers into Vintage Tree Light ReflectorsÂ
For this next step use a toothpick and E6000 glue, not your glue gun.
It would be a shame to get this far and then have a mess of glue all over your pretty light reflectors.
Just a little dab will do ya, inside each light reflector.
And then you drop whatever you want into the centers.
I’m using faux pearls, but you could use buttons or beads or whatever you have that will fit.
For the top of my vintage tree light reflectors wall art I used a slightly different pink light reflector with a start shape and tinsel.
To glam it up, because it is the star, I glued on a large faux pearl and surrounded with parts of an aqua blue rhinestone blue bracelet.
I love the combo of any aqua and any pink together… even when it’s this purply side of pink.
There’s something so magical about this color combo to me.
The scarf texture behind the light reflectors really gives it a little extra something.
You could do this project using any color of light reflectors you like…. even green for a Christmas tree.
But mine is in the living room hanging near my large very green artificial Christmas tree, so I wanted my light reflectors Christmas tree to really pop.
Can you tell we have cats?
Hanging anything on the lower portion of the tree is just too much temptation. We’re lucky we can put lights there. lol.
And you can see that I painted the living room floor white. That’s just the base coat of a paint treatment to come after the holiday season is over.
I love contrasts in texture, like the rustic barnboard with the silvery patina of the metal tree light reflectors, and the warmth of the white woolly winter scarf.
Never be afraid to mix textures. Doing that really makes things much more interesting.
I’ll probably keep this up all winter. Why not?
These light reflectors remind me of the Christmases of my childhood, and that little girl inside me who helps me keep believing in the magic of Christmas.
We all should have some things in our homes that do that.
Actually, we all should have as many things as possible in our homes that do that…. all year round.
Save this project for later by pinning to your favorite board!
Thanks so much for reading, and until next time…
keep on keepin’ on!

Darling idea…I even have a cookie cookie like that, actually several different designs.
Thanks so much Nancy.
Amazing! And beautiful. Do you ever run out of fabulous ideas?
Thanks Laura! I certainly hope I never do. 🙂
Love that idea! Beautiful! And yes, so reminiscent of the good old days. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Karen. Merry Christmas to you!
I totally understand the decorating of your tree. We have cats too. My tree came with lights already attached. It also has little pine cones on the tips. All I added was a star on the top and a simple garland. First two days they knocked it over twice and then lost interest. It’s only four foot and on a table so it was easy to put back up. Would love to make a reflector tree like yours. I have reflectors somewhere just haven’t looked in the right box yet. Thanks for all your great ideas. I’m like you my most loved Christmas things are the ones that remind me of my childhood. I love vintage things so most of my Christmas things came from thrift stores. I can’t believe how much work someone puts into a Christmas decoration and it ends up in a thrift store. I love all the home made things. Merry Christmas.
Yes, there’s nothing like vintage Christmas decorations that’s for sure. I hope your find your reflectors, and I’m so glad your kitties have lost interest in your tree. 🙂
I love this! And, YES, I would leave it up all Winter, too!! God Bless you and your family, Tuula…you have made 2018 a great year for me with your ideas and your love of repurposing!!
Thank you so much Karolyn! That is so sweet of you to say. God Bless you and your family too. 🙂
Another great crafting idea! I had to giggle when I remembered about your mischievous kitties being the reason for the lower naked portion of your tree lol! The whole look is beautiful and I LOVE all your handmade decor!
Thanks Pam! Yes our kitties do keep up on our Christmas toes. lol.
Purply-pink is the best (this from the purple lovin’ girl)! And can you really have enough reflectors?? This tree is just beautiful! I’m afraid my crafting supplies are sadly lacking lately. Sewing is taking the time away…..fortunately I love it, too. OH! know what else I love? Getting on HomeTalk and seeing a project that I recognize as yours!!! I say in my head (or out loud) “hey, that’s my girl’s!” Yeah, I’m possessive that way!! 🙂 Love this tree and “my” faraway girl! Dona
Thanks so much Dona! You’re the best! I really envy your sewing talents. I would love to learn more than how to sew a straight line. Maybe in the New Year! You never know that a new year will bring. 🙂
Your Christmas tree looks like my son and daughter-in-laws tree this year. Ha! They have 2 new cats this year. I love your reflector tree.
Thanks so much Koleta! Yes, we do have to keep out cats in mind when we decorate that’s for sure. 🙂
