How to make a Repurposed Gift Bow Wreath

This quick and easy gift bow wreath project was born when I created these mini gift bow wreath tree ornaments last week.

It’s often amazes me how one project begets another.

You start working with something for one specific project, and suddenly another idea finds its way into your brain.

And then, much to your surprise, another one follows that.

When this happens, you don’t ask any questions. You just thank your lucky creative stars, and go with it.

Colorful gift bows to be repurposed into a Christmas wreath

I got these fun and colorful Christmas gift bows at my local dollar store. These bows are about 3″ wide, with some varying slightly in size.

What I really liked about these bows is the different looks to the bows. Some are sparkly, some are striped, some have a matte texture, and some are flat but still sparkly.

For this gift bow wreath I’m using a 12″ styrofoam wreath frame. These can also be found at the dollar store, but I often see them at thrift stores too.

The gilitzy gift bows were $1.25 for 6 and I had 6 packs of those, and I got three 15 packs of mixed regular and striped bows for $2 each.

Repurposed gift bows sorted in piles by color

I organized my bows by color so it would be easy to see what I had to work with.

Using hot glue to atach gift bows after removing sticky paper

I removed all the sticky attachment thingies on the bottoms of the bows before gluing the gift bows onto the wreath form.

Those stickies won’t hold the bows onto the styrofoam, and honestly they just get in the way.

Assembling your gift bow wreath

Gluing colorful gift bows onto inside of styrofoam wreath form

I did the inside of the wreath form first, and I just placed the bows in a way that I liked.

For whatever reason, I had a lot of green striped bows so I used 4 of them here.

I decided not to use any of the white bows because I wanted my wreath to be colorful, fun, and festive.

Then I did the top, because when it came to my choice of bows to use I wanted to make sure I had the cream of the crop available.

I didn’t want to use up all the good ones on the sides.

After the top was all done I started on the bottom left outside area. You can see how it’s starting to fill out nicely.

When placing the bows, make sure to put them nice and snug beside each other so you don’t get large gaps showing through to the wreath form.

And here’s my finished gift bow wreath.

I used 54 bows on my wreath, which was a mixture of the regular bows and the glitzier ones.

The bows cost me $13.50 in total, but I still have 37 bows left, so I’m guesstimating the cost of this gift bow wreath to be somewhere around $9.

Considering I’ll have this for years to come, I think that’s pretty inexpensive. And it’s light as a feather, making it very easy to hang anywhere.

Hanging your gift bow wreath

I glued a piece of jute rope to the back for a hanger. I love the combo of the rustic jute with the shiny bows, but anything that you love could be used.

Here are some close ups so you can see the different texture looks of the bows.

When placing your bows, don’t think about it too much.

Just throw caution to the wind, and go for it.

No matter what the color combo or placement, it will be fabulously festive.

And here’s my quick and easy gift bow wreath on the inside of my front door, which is my kitchen door and the entrance we always use.

My DIY Christmas ornaments wreath still goes on the outside of the door, but it’s always nice to have something colorful and festive on the inside since we’ll actually see that more.

This gift bow wreath took about 40 minutes to create, with a few of that spent just taking off the sticky thingies on the bows.

Supplies needed to create this gift bow wreath

  • Colorful gift bows
  • 12″ styrofoam wreath form
  • hot glue gun
  • hot glue sticks
  • jute rope

Oh, girl! It’s so nice to know that I’m not the only one who divides things like that…….saving best for where they’ll show the best! My kids always just said I was crazy! This wreath is so perfect! And I’ve learned, again, to look for obvious things to use in crafts. Thanks for the reminder!

I was going to say the exact same as the previous comment, “so cute and easy!” There are people that think they have no crafting skills and they are scared to try anything but this wreath goes to show that anyone can be crafty and creating something beautiful doesn’t have to be difficult, time consuming or expensive!
