Easy Upcycled Rope Vase for Fall Flowers

I’ve always loved flowers. For all seasons and all holidays.

Ever since I was a little girl, and I picked my first buttercups, flowers and I have had a love/love relationship.

I love them outside in the gardens, and I love them inside on wreaths, on fabric, and in art.

I don’t care if they’re real or faux. I love them all, and I’ve always needed flowers in my life. Pretty much anywhere you can think of to put them, I will love them.

So, for today’s project I’m taking some lovely faux fall flowers and giving them a fun and easy upcycled rope vase to artfully live in for the season.

Because in my opinion all flowers are art, whether they’re real or not.

And this is such an easy way to display them in your home.

Even though I enjoy coming up with new upcycled project ideas, I also enjoy reusing things that I’ve created throughout the year. Like this upcycled rope vase that can be easily changed up for different seasons and holidays all year long.

To create an upcycled rope vase like mine you’ll need the following supplies; a plastic peanut butter jar; sisal rope; a hot glue gun and glue sticks; some fall ribbons; and some faux fall flowers.

But, as always, feel free to use whatever you have that will work for you.

Supplies needed for upcycled rope vase

I love peanut butter, crunchy in particular, and I always enjoy finding ways to upcycle the plastic jars so they stay out of my recycle bin like these decoupaged peanut butter jar storage containers, and this clothesline vase that I created for my spring flowers from Easter eggs.

I like upcycling peanut butter jars because they’re light weight and plastic. I tend to stay away from glass because we have three cats.

I get all my faux flowers for all seasons at local thrift stores. They’re super inexpensive and are easy to store until you need them.

This really couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is hot glue the rope around the jar. I like to start just at the bottom of the section at the top where the lid screws onto.

And I make my way down and around. As you’re gluing it’s important to lift the rope and place it on top of the glue. Don’t slide the rope up the jar into the glue. Doing that can cause the glue to be pushed up between the rows of rope so that you’ll see it. And that is not what you want.

After you have carefully placed the rope on the glue, you then press it down making sure there’s as little space as possible between the rows.

When you get to the bottom you just keep going.

Until it looks something like this.

You can see that the sisal rope has a lot of strings. You can trim some of them if they bother you or, like me, you can just let them be. I tend to like the rustic look.

I finished gluing the sisal rope around the top of the jar, just so the plastic is completed covered.

Then, so you can reuse your rope vase, cut your ribbon to size with an extra inch or so; wrap the ribbon around the vase, and glue it onto itself. This way it can easily be removed so you can change up your vase whenever you like.

I went into my thrifted fall flowers stash and just started adding what I liked, trying to mix up the colors and the textures.

And I just continued to add a few here and there. You can really just play to your heart’s content. It’s done when it feels done to you.

After looking at it for a few minutes, I decided it needed a few darker flowers. You can see the ones that are sort of a dark rusty color. For me they add a bit of depth.

And then I thought it needed a few white daisies, to tie in with the ribbon and to add a bit of lightness to the arrangement.

Well, who doesn’t love daisies anyway. I pretty much think these sweet flowers fit into any floral arrangement all year round.

The daisies made it just right. For me anyway.

The fun thing about any kind of floral arranging, is that you can do what you love and what works for you.

There’s no rules here. At least not in my world.

So there you have it. A very easy upcycled rope vase that can be reused all year round. I can picture a Christmas ribbon for a Christmas arrangement, a heart ribbon for Valentines day and so on and so on and so on. So many possibilities from one upcycled vase base.

I hope this project has inspired you to create one of your own.

It would be greatly appreciated if you would pin this project to your favorite Pinterest board, and also share it with your friends.
