Decoupaged Chandelier Crystals

I know I shouldn’t be talking about Christmas this early, after all fall just arrived. But a few weeks ago I thrifted a bunch of vintage chandelier crystals. A big whopping mother load actually.

Now that I have more than enough to bling up many, many wind chimes I decided to make some crystal ornaments.

Waaaaay back in the late 70s when decoupage was a big thing (at least in my world) we decoupaged funky flowers onto chandelier crystals for the Christmas tree.

Even though I still love funky flowers I’m definitely not the peasant blouse and bell bottoms chick that I once was sooo I decoupaged these babies with lovely french inages. Of course the Eiffel Tower one is my favourite.

Silver pinch pendant bails are attached, and I’m using black hemp twine for hanging. A set of these (or two or three) will definitely be on my tree this year.Update: To make these yourself you can pop over to my tutorial here at How To Decoupage Chandelier Crystals.

And then I thought how fun it would be to add chandelier graphics to the chandelier crystals. Clearly I don’t get out enough. lol.Maybe I need to do some swinging on some big old chandeliers. lol. Now that would be fun.

A set of these will be on my tree. Can you guess what colour mine will be?
Bet you can’t… I’m such an enigma. lol.

These aren’t just for the Christmas tree. Oh no. They can be hung on mirrors, lamps, curtain tie backs, door knobs… or anywhere you think needs a little bling or a little somethin’ somethin’.
Anywhere you can think of… absolutely anywhere.
Where you would hang them?

P.S. I forgot to mention that my pics of how to make these were somehow deleted. I plan to make some necklaces soon so I’ll be showing a tutorial then.

  1. These are are so very lovely that I prefer not to say where I would hang them :>))) HINT: I have hung from a chandelier. Very envious of your crystal haul.

  2. Tuula. I've never seen this done before. So pretty. A crystal haul is unheard of! You hit the jackpot! Let's see, I'd hang them on a mirror. And then I'd move them somewhere else…cause that's what I do 🙂

  3. Lovely! The sky's the limit on what images you could use. I have done this a couple of times, but I'm impressed you were doing it already in the 70's. My 70's decoupaging was just adding Holly Hobby to those plaster domey things. Not original.

  4. I have tried and tried to make these. How do you get so smooth??? HELPPPP

    1. Hi Julie: My pics of the steps were deleted somehow (I'm all thumbs sometimes, lol). but I'll be posting a tutorial within the next few weeks when I make some chandelier crystal necklaces. I hope you stay tuned for that.
      Thanks for stopping by,
      Tuula

    2. Thank you thank you thank you! I have had all the ingredients, just no recipe…LOL.

I will be on the look out! 🙂

  5. These are so adorable! I can see them hanging on a metal tree . . . one you can use all year round!

  6. Beautiful, Tuula! I think Suzan's heart just skipped a beat.
I am very envious of your crystal find.
I hope it was a wheelbarrow full!

  7. So beautiful Tuula! I think they have so many uses. Could see one hanging on my jar of bling in the craft room. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
