Fabulous Finds Friday: Who The Heck Is She?
Sometimes when I’m wandering around a thrift store I’ll see something that’s totally not my style.
But at the same time there’s something about it that I find very cool, and even though my common sense tells me that I shouldn’t love it… I do.
It’s a gut thing, and can’t really be explained.
This often happens with unusual things, things that are a complete mystery to me.
And a great price doesn’t hurt either.
Does this ever happen to you?
I found this beautiful $5 framed lady hanging near the entry way of my local thrift store.
When I first went in I didn’t see her, so I’m guessing she was hung up while I was doing my rounds.
She’s framed in a 16 1/2″ x 10 1/2″ wooden shadow box with a plastic front.
And a paper covered back.
At first I thought she was Asian, but now I’m not sure.
Maybe Mexican, or Spanish?
I love all the floral details in her hair, and she even has earrings!
Is that a baby chicken coming out of her hair? lol
She reminds me a little bit of Carmen Miranda. She wore crazy hats and headresses in old movies.
She’s made up of pieces that are put together on what looks like burlap.
It’s hard to tell what she’s made out of because I can’t open the frame up.
Some of the pieces are laid in a 3D way like paper tole, and they’re tied together with some kind of twine and knots.
By the positioning of her arms I’m wondering if she’s dancing.
Maybe a flamenco dancer?
In this close up you can see that there are cut outs in the mystery material, which has then been painted with these stunning colors.
I tried to do some research but came up with nothing, so I have no idea how old she is or where she came from.
What do you think? Any ideas?
Who the heck is she, and what is she doing?
Thanks so much for reading, and until next time…
keep on keepin’ on!

I don’t know either, but she is beautiful!!
Thanks Karolyn!
I wonder if she could be a shadow puppet? Regardless, she’s a whole lot of fun for $5! Your eyes won’t get bored with her for a long time.
Thanks Tess! I think you’re right about that.
Not sure either what or who she is, but that’s definitely YOU !!!
Thanks Penny! It’s funny that I really didn’t think she was me at all, but the more I look at her the more I think you might be right.
Girl, you got me stumped, but cute find! I agree you could look a long time & not get bored.
Thanks Florence! She’s a real mystery.
The stitching and overlaying reminds me of a crazy quilt. Very cute, keep shopping!
Thanks Deb! The colors do kinda look like that too.
Do you see any writing on it anywhere, like a signature? I love finding things like this! Your imagination can really run wild trying to figure it out. There’s a group on Facebook called Antiques, vintage and unusual item identification. Join the group and you will probably find out exactly what it is.
I am a member of the group so if you don’t want to join I can find out for you.
Thanks Shirley! No, there isn’t any writing on it anywhere. Finding mystery items is fun that’s for sure. I’ll check out that group. Thanks for the tip. 🙂
I don’t know anything about her but I can’t wait to find out if you find out any information on her. She’s beautiful! I love the things you find & make. I wish you were in FL i’d Love to shop with you ?
Thanks Gloria! I’d love to shop with you too. 🙂
It is a wonderful piece of art, so many details. It would be wonderful to hear the artists story behind this.
Thanks Audra! I agree. Hopefully I’ll find something out about her some day.
It’s funny that you didn’t think it was “you”. Like Penny, I, too, see her as totally you! The colors, detail, mystery…..totally you! I think some of your readers know you as well as you know yourself! She’s a treasure….I noticed the bird first thing!! Another great find! Dona
Thanks Dona! Maybe sometimes we don’t see that something is us until someone else notices it. lol.
